TRIGGER POINT THERAPY FOR PAIN MANAGEMENT AND PAIN RELIEF

Are you suffering from chronic pain?
Is your mobility restricted?
Are you constantly experiencing headaches and tension?

A poor posture or physical stress puts an unnatural strain on the muscles and, as a result, on the cartilage, bones and ligaments. Due to that, painful trigger points form in the muscle and peripheral triggers in the tendon insertion of the bones. These triggers are permanently tight, contracted muscles and thickened regions of muscle fibre. The medical term for this condition is myogelosis. Triggers can develop anywhere in the muscular tissue of the body – but regardless of where they form, they will cause pain. Often, a myogelosis forms far away from the causal, improperly strained region. This is why in some cases, only the symptoms, but not the causes are properly attended to. During focused trigger point shock wave therapy, about 2,000 pulses are put on the painful trigger points in 3 to 5 sessions.

TRIGGER POINT AREAS

  • Mandibular joint
  • Thoracic spine
  • Cervical spine
  • Lumbar spine
  • Upper arm
  • Thighs
  • Forearm
  • Lower leg

THE PROCEDURE

  • As a rule, the treatment takes between 5 and 10 minutes.
  • After a short resting and monitoring period, the patient can go home.
  • Rarely, local pain may occur a few hours after treatment. If this is the case, the patient is recommended to make cooling compresses. Usually, the ingestion of a painkiller is not necessary.
  • In rare cases, bruises occur, which subside after a few days. There are no other known side effects.
  • A therapy series with three or six treatments at a week’s distance is generally sufficient for successful therapy.
  • The patient is advised to get in touch with their physician in case there are further questions.

DURATION OF TREATMENT

The duration of treatment depends on the clinical picture and varies accordingly. However, our experience has shown that 3 to 5 treatments at one-week intervals are normally sufficient.

ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS?

In general, trigger point shock wave therapy is a very gentle treatment. For a short time, disorders may increase, but there are no known side effects.
